The BBB is issuing a warning to all Businesses to be on the look out for a phony letter that appears to be from the U.S. Department of Transportation Procurement Office. The letter bears the US DOT logo and the address of 400 Seventh St. SW, Washington DC 20390. The letter was signed as Senior Procurement Officer. The letter request a financial information release form to be faxed to 202-280-1404. The form requests the business banking account number.
DO NOT complete the release form which is attached to the letter and DO NOT release any information to the facsimile number cited in the letter. The US Department of Transportation warns the letters are fraudulent. The most recent are dated February 7 and January 28, 2008. These fraudulent letters request that current or potential contractors register by submitting their company’s financial information on a release form entitled, “Authorization to release financial information”. Please be aware that DOT does not require any financial information to be submitted in order to be eligible for procurement.
