The Better Business Bureau and the Abilene Police Department is issuing a warning to area businesses about a suspect in a stolen credit identify theft ring operating in the area. Police report a rash of stolen identities in Abilene and across the state. Suspects in the crime may be operating along the I-20 & I-10 corridors in Texas.
On Wednesday, October 24, 2007, a very well dressed black female applied for a Lowes credit card at the new store on I-20. The card was immediately approved with a very large credit limit, the suspect then tried to use the newly approved card to purchase 2 store gift cards for the full amount of the credit limit. A phony Texas Drivers Licenses and the name and social security number of a woman in Houston was used in the crime.
The suspect is described as a black female, wearing very expensive clothing, stocky build. She is believed to be driving a 2007 Black Tahoe, with dealer tags. The BBB suggests caution if you are approached for credit from this person. Anyone with information regarding the suspect should contact Sgt.
