ABOUT OUR KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Larry Conlee, a leader in the telecommunications industry with groundbreaking companies Research in Motion (RIM-BlackBerry) and Motorola for more than four decades will be keynote speaker at the Annual Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics. Award Ceremonies will be held October 9, 2013 at McMurry University in the Mabee room of the Garrison Campus Center. He most recently served as a Strategic Advisor to the Office of CEO of Research In Motion Limited (now BlackBerry Limited.), until his retirement in March, 2013. Previously, Conlee served as the Chief Operating Officer, Product Development and Manufacturing of Research In Motion Ltd. (RIM) until January 1, 2010. Conlee oversaw RIM's engineering and manufacturing groups to help realize and expand upon RIM's longstanding vision for 'Always On, Always Connected' computing and communications solutions. Conlee's experience in product development and life cycle management helped RIM execute business plans, effectively manage growth and sustain competitive advantage.
Prior to joining RIM in 2001, he held numerous senior leadership positions, with over twenty years of extensive international experience in corporate senior management at Motorola.
During his career, Conlee has led a variety of successful, cross-functional teams competing in the cellular, PCS, paging and messaging sectors. Conlee's executive positions at Motorola included: Corporate Vice President and General Manager - Messaging and Paging Products Group, Corporate Vice President and General Manager - Pan American Cellular Subscriber Group, and Corporate Vice President and Assistant General Manager - European Cellular Subscriber Division. He served as Member of the Board of Governors at 3G Americas, LLC.
He holds a BA in Physics from McMurry University (1971) and an MBA, M.S. Management, Cum Laude from Lake Forest School of Management, Lake Forest, Illinois (1977). While at McMurry, he served for three years as a summer intern for Hewlett Packard in California, expanding his experience in quartz crystal technology in a special program run by Dr. Virgil Bottom for McMurry Physics majors.
A native Texan, Conlee graduated from Clyde High School and currently resides in Dallas with his wife Kathy, also a McMurry graduate. They have two sons, two daughters and four grandchildren. Conlee enjoys golf, traveling and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys.
